
The history of
Standardization
In The Sudan goes back to Year 1899
When First Order of Weights & Measures was
issued. 1955 weights the release of first
detailed Sudanese Law of Weights & Measures
and foundation of concern department. The law
was meant to facilitate mode & means of
trade among citizens. In 1972 the low of Weight
& Measures was amended. Second amendment of
the law took place in 1978 to meet the
persistent needs of commerce
In 1972
the Act of Quality Control of agricultural
products was issued to monitor quality of
exports of cereals & oil seeds.
During the period of 1968-1975
Quality Control laboratories at Khartoum, Port
Sudan and Elobied were established under the
umbrella of ministry of trade.
Certification of Gold was performed by
department of Gold testing & Hall Marketing
in accordance to the law of 1972. In 1968
department of Standards was formed with in the
framework of ministry industry first law of
Standards was issued in 1990.
In 1992-
1993
Sudanese
Standards & Metrology Organization
(SSMO)
law was
approved.
