The law of
SSMO came into
enforcement in July 1994. To avoid duplication and enhance an efficient
sta rt-up,
in October 1994 Ministerial resolution had shifted Departments of
Weights & Measures, Gold Testing & Hall-marking and Quality Control to
SSMO.
SSMO is the sole autonomous
governmental authority for all Standardization activities in the Sudan.
OBJECTIVES
Main objectives include:
Protection & awareness of consumers.

Strengthening & protection of national economy.
2.
Improve quantity & quality of national produce & services.
3.
Adoption the philosophy of quality assistance and enforce
implementation.
4.
Standardization of commodities.
5.
To
monitor quality of imports & exports.
MEANS & TOOLS
1. Provision of local, regional &
international standards &specifications.
2. Straining of personnel.
3. Laboratory and analysis and
inspection.
4. Qualification& accreditation of
service Laboratories.
5. Release of quality manuals and
procedures.
6. Granting quality mark and
compliance certificate.
7. Monitor & supervise proper
implementation of specifications.
8.
Calibration and certification of weights &measures.
9.
Gold & precious stones certification &
hall marking.
10.
Act as
focal point to all standardization activities.
11.
Internationally.
