The
designed capacity of the existing tanneries is estimated at
9 million pieces of light leather and about 1,3 million
pieces of patched leather. All the tanneries are working
with more than 93% of their designed capacities satisfying
the local market and contributing about 50 million dollars
annually from the proceeds of export. Indeed the
availability of tanned leather has facilitated the
establishment of various industries for the production of
shoes, bags, straps, purses, leather garments and various
popular leather articles.
