The
diversified environment in the country is behind the
existence of various types of wildlife. There are at least
some 266 species of mammals from 12 families and these are
all the types found in Africa with the exception of one
type. Some 938 types of birds have been identified as well
as 95 types of snakes. Among the most important wild animals
mention may be made of the elephant, white rhino, lions,
giraffes, buffalo, tiang, water buck, roan antelope, kudu,
oribi, bush buck, warthog, baboon, etc. The important birds
include ostrich, marabou stork, gray heron, and a number of
birds of prey.
Fortunately
the Sudan has issued laws to conserve and protect wildlife
since 1935. Strict by-laws have been carefully formulated to
ban un-authorized hunting and to confine hunting to specific
types and in restricted areas. In the circumstance the
